Mechanical behavior of ion-irradiated ODS RAF steels strengthened with different types of refractory oxides

In the present work, authors focused on verifying structural and mechanical properties of Oxide Dispersed Strengthening (ODS) steels strengthened by three different types refractory oxides submitted to ion-irradiation. Three materials with Y2O3 or Al2O3 ZrO2 were produced alloying Spark Plasma Sintering technique. Specimens have been high energy Ar-ion irradiation at room temperature fluences. This procedure allowed generate strongly damaged zone a thickness 230nm. SEM/EBSD TEM observations, GIXRD analysis, nanoindentation tests included in examination modified layers. Investigation revealed alteration features as result Ar-irradiation. Obtained results showed strong correlation between strengthening oxide materials' behavior under radiation damage. It has proved that below 1x1015ions/cm2 layer all are very similar. Reported may be related efficient annealing defect process. Above this limit, significant differences visible. is believed described phenomenon directly presence their capacity act sinks. Consequently, type dominant mechanisms occurring proposed.
